Our Shifting Selves:
Motherhood as a
Journey of Transformation

True North Services
A Six Week Workshop
Thursdays, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
$180 for six weeks

Being a mother, we are told, is supposed to be one of the most joyful experiences of our lives, and often it is. But no other experience opens us up to more self-doubt. No other role invites so much criticism -- and self-criticism. Our own needs and those of our children often seem irreconcilably different. Our old sense of self may have been shaken when the children came, and we are struggling to redefine ourselves. And discussing these issues with other mothers in a truly honest way is almost impossible.

But motherhood also affords us a tremendous opportunity to grow into whom we were meant to be. It challenges us to live our most authentic life, for, when it comes to our children, nothing less will do. Using personal essays, dreams, and fairy tales, this workshop will explore such themes as sacrifice, time, confronting our own dark emotions, and claiming our own authority. We will visit with honesty and compassion the vulnerable places of motherhood, and discover how it can be a crucible for becoming our true selves.

What are people saying about this workshop?

Here’s what participants have said about this workshop:

“I found this workshop enjoyable on so many levels! Finally a chance to explore my growth as a woman and mother that allowed me to reflect on more than just the usual issues. The thoughtful discussions and group interactions were the most helpful, fun, and interesting I've shared so far as a new mother, and I enjoyed the support and connections with such a great group of women with children of different ages. Lisa's openness and her accessibility as a facilitator were truly engaging.” – Mary A. Harris, psychotherapist, mother of Sam, 4 mos. Old

“I simply enjoyed hearing your perspective – your thoughts truly resonated with mine, and it’s so rare to find someone who has thought about these issues as deeply as you have. I also thought that the group of women you gathered was perfect for these discussions. Thank you for bringing your workshop to life.” - Jeanne, parent educator

"I'm so grateful for the workshop you created. It came at the perfect time in my life and has helped me see what I'm doing with new eyes." - Jen, mother of 2.
